EXPERTISE AREAS

Hello, I’m Abbie – Welcome to A Drury Counselling Services, thank you for stopping by my website! I hope the information here allows you to gain a better idea of what counselling can offer and if it might feel right for you, however, please do feel free to get in touch with any questions you may have.

I am a fully qualified and experienced therapeutic counsellor and as a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy ( BACP ), my practice embodies the professional principles set out in the Ethical Framework, ensuring that the client’s needs are always at the heart of our work together.

I am a fully inclusive therapist and will always strive to provide a service that is accessible for all where possible. I work from a quiet village location with free parking and ground floor facilities, which is in close reach to the surrounding towns of St Neots, Bedford and Huntingdon. I also offer online and telephone appointments.

I am experienced in working with both adults and young people with a wide range of presenting issues and concerns, including anxiety and depression, loss and bereavement, low self-esteem, workplace/relationship struggles, intrusive thoughts and childhood trauma.

Many of us at different stages in our lives will seek support for a variety of reasons, you may be aware of significant events in your life that feel unresolved or it may be that for no known reason – you just don’t feel yourself at the moment and want to seek a better understanding in a safe and supportive environment. You may be feeling lost or continuously worried about what others think of you, perhaps it is difficult to reach out to friends or family through fear of judgement or receiving unwanted advice. Whatever issues we find ourselves struggling with, counselling can offer a space to start untangling and making sense of the obstacles we are experiencing.

What can counselling offer?

I work from a Person-centred (Humanistic) approach, with the counselling process centred around your individual needs as the client. I believe in your potential to grow and overcome the barriers you are facing, given the right environment and conditions to explore and process the issues that are troubling you. I also draw on a variety of therapeutic techniques to support the client’s process where this is beneficial for the individual.

The therapy environment

Listen

I will listen to your concerns with warmth and empathy, welcoming whatever issues you want to discuss and working at a pace that feels comfortable for you. The therapy space is free of judgement and accepting of your whole experience.

Trust

A trusting relationship is a key component of our work together, building strong foundations where you can gently feel at ease to explore the areas that hold the most importance to you.

Grow

I believe that everyone has the potential to grow and discover the roots of their issues and answers to their distress. I will walk alongside you compassionately as you explore your experiences – allowing you a richer understanding and acceptance, gaining the tools to support your well-being
and live life in a more fulfilling way.

“When I have been listened to and when I have been heard, I am able to re-
perceive my world in a new way and to go on. It is astonishing how elements
that seem insoluble become soluble when someone listens, how confusions
that seem irremediable turn into relatively clear flowing streams when one is
heard.‘’
Carl Rogers

Getting started – what should I expect at my first session?

Please feel free to contact me with any questions about taking those first steps or to enquire about current session availability. During your first session, we can discuss what is happening for you and any goals and expectations you might have from counselling. I may also ask a few questions ~

Have you had any experience of counselling before and if so what has this been like for you?

What brings you to counselling at this point in your life?

What are you hoping to get out of the sessions?

Have you got any goals you want to work towards? (often clients may not be aware of specific goals at the start but just want to explore how they are feeling and see where this takes them – we will start with whatever stage feels right for you)
