Bedford based counselling sessions for adults and young people

WELCOME

Welcome to A Drury Counselling Services, thank you for stopping by my website!

I hope the information here allows you to gain a better idea of what counselling can offer and if it might feel right for you, however, please do feel free to get in touch with any questions you may have.

I am a dedicated and compassionate therapist, offering counselling services in Bedford and surrounding areas for those struggling with mental health and well-being difficulties. It is my goal to provide my clients with a safe and supportive environment that promotes growth, which can help them to live life in a more fulfilling way.

As a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), I work in accordance with the professional standards set out in the Ethical framework, ensuring that the client’s safety and needs remain at the forefront of the counselling relationship.

I work with both adults and young people with a wide range of presenting issues and concerns, including the following –

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Loss and bereavement
  • Low self-esteem
  • Workplace / relationship struggles
  • Intrusive thoughts
  • Trauma
  • Survivors of sexual/domestic abuse
  • Family difficulties
  • Those trying to navigate difficult emotions including grief, loneliness, guilt, lack of motivation, anger, worry, regret and shame

Taking those first steps into counselling can feel daunting, especially when not knowing what to expect but I believe that many of us at some stage during our lives will want to search for some additional support.

You may be aware of significant events in your life that feel unresolved (such as loss or traumatic experiences), or it may be that for no known reason – you just don’t feel yourself at the moment and want to seek a better understanding in a safe and supportive environment.

What can counselling offer?

I work from a Person-centred approach, with the counselling process centred around your individual needs and experiences as the client, this means that I believe in the client’s potential to grow when given the right environment and conditions to explore and process the issues that are troubling them. I also draw on a variety of therapeutic techniques to support the client’s process where this is beneficial for the individual, including working via a more specialist route when supporting clients with trauma.

Counselling can open the doorway to developing a greater understanding and awareness of certain behaviours, responses to difficult life events, relationships and emotions more clearly, which can help the client to foster resilience, boundaries and strategies that work best for them as an individual.

The therapy environment

Listen

I will listen to your concerns with warmth and empathy, welcoming whatever issues you want to discuss whilst always striving to work at a pace that feels comfortable for you. The therapy space is free of judgement and accepting of your whole experience.

Trust

A trusting relationship is a key component of the counselling process, building strong foundations where the client can gently feel at ease to explore the areas that hold the most importance to them.

Grow

The therapy environment aims to promote growth and empowerment in order to help clients work towards changes that better align with their sense of self and well-being.

“When I have been listened to and when I have been heard, I am able to re-perceive my world in a new way and to go on. It is astonishing how elements that seem insoluble become soluble when someone listens, how confusions that seem irremediable turn into relatively clear flowing streams when one is heard.‘’
Carl Rogers

Getting started – what should I expect at my first session?

Please feel free to contact me with any questions about taking those first steps or to enquire about current session availability. During your first session we can discuss what is happening for you and any goals and expectations you might have from counselling. I may also ask a few questions ~

  • Have you had any experience of counselling before and if so what has this been like for you?
  • What brings you to counselling at this point in your life?
  • What are you hoping to get out of the sessions?
  • Have you got any goals you want to work towards? (often clients may not be aware of specific goals at the start but just want to explore how they are feeling and see where this takes them – we will start with whatever stage feels right for you)
